Phoenix & Scottsdale, Arizona

Venue

In Phoenix & Scottsdale: The Valley's venue market splits into resort properties that price on a food-and-beverage minimum and public land that prices on a permit fee, and the gap between them is enormous. A city ramada at South Mountain books for nothing — literally zero dollars — while a county regional-park permit for the same guest count runs roughly $200 plus $5 per guest, requires two-million-dollar liability coverage naming the county, and reserves the right to require off-duty deputies and paramedics at your expense. Resort and golf-course venues use an F&B minimum instead of a flat rental: the number you need to understand is whether tax and the service charge count toward that minimum or stack on top of it, because the answer changes the real cost by thousands. On public land, watch the clock. South Mountain gates close at 7 p.m. and prohibit amplified music at every ramada, so the free venue cannot host an evening reception. Scottsdale prices its park ramadas at half the standard rate from June through August. The county's own packaged wedding venue sells dates Labor Day through Memorial Day only. Expect $4,000 to $25,000 for a venue in this market, with the widest swing driven by whether you are buying a building or a permit.
