In Napa & Sonoma: Twelve florists serve both counties. The climate is unusually kind to cut flowers here — hot afternoons but very low humidity, and effectively no rain between June and September — so the enemy is wind rather than damp. Marine air coming through the Petaluma Gap makes the southern end of the region, around Carneros and the lower valley, materially cooler and windier than Calistoga or Healdsburg, and an installation designed for a sheltered inland site will not behave the same way twenty miles south. Tell your florist which end of the region you are in, not just which county. The thirty-degree evening drop matters too: arrangements that looked right at three o'clock sit in a very different room by nine. Budget $5,000 to $18,000.
