Flowers & Décor

In Washington, DC: Read the rules of your site before you design anything for it, because the public ones here are strict and specific. On National Mall and Memorial Parks ground, flower petals, rice, confetti and similar items may not be dropped, thrown or dispensed, and equipment or decorations may not be attached to any park structure or vegetation. Rock Creek Park is a different office with a different permit and a harder answer: at Georgetown Waterfront Park, the Old Stone House garden, Montrose Park and Meridian Hill Park, decorations and chairs are not permitted at all, the gathering is capped at 50 people and two hours between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., the processing fee is $200, and applications must be received at least one month in advance. Indoors, ask any historic property what it allows in the way of open flame and what may be fixed to a wall before you commission anything. Humidity through the warm months is hard on delicate stems held outdoors; ask what holds up in it. Twelve florists are listed, in the District, Fairfax, Alexandria and Bowie.
