Fort Lauderdale & the Palm Beaches, Florida

Officiant & Ceremony

In Fort Lauderdale & the Palm Beaches: One (1) officiant and ceremony vendor is listed, in Lake Worth Beach, with 4 labeled alternatives below the listings that are congregations rather than officiant services, and they are where to start. Officiant services typically run $200 to $900. Florida law is broad on who may marry you: under Florida Statutes 741.07, ordained clergy, judicial officers, clerks of the circuit court and Florida notaries public may all solemnize a marriage, which is why a notary is a common choice for a small beach ceremony. The license is valid for 60 days. Broward County requires both of you to apply in person at the same time, and the Broward Clerk performs civil ceremonies once the license takes effect. On Palm Beach County park beaches, a ceremony of 25 guests or fewer needs no permit if it runs early in the morning or late in the afternoon (the county publishes the exact hours), lasts no more than twenty minutes and sets up no chairs, structures or sound equipment. City beaches set their own rules, so confirm with the city before you fix the hour.

Churches and congregations

These are places of worship rather than for-hire officiants. Many will marry members of their own congregation, or couples willing to join and complete a marriage preparation course, and some will not marry non-members at all. Several also price the building, the clergy and the musician separately. Ask early what they require of you — policy varies widely between denominations, and between individual congregations of the same denomination.
