Florida is one of the few states where a notary public can legally solemnize a marriage anywhere in the state, which makes for a common and defensible route for civil ceremonies. The marriage license carries a three-day waiting period for Florida residents that is waived on completion of a state-approved premarital preparation course under Florida Statute 741.0305 — which also reduces the license fee by thirty-two dollars and fifty cents; there is no waiting period for out-of-state applicants; the license is valid for sixty days from issuance.
