Key West & the Florida Keys, Florida

Officiant & Ceremony

In Key West & the Florida Keys: Zero (0) dedicated officiant vendors turned up on this crawl. The labeled alternatives below the listings are churches and congregations; a religious ceremony there is answered by contacting the church directly, not by hiring a listed vendor. For a civil ceremony, Florida allows notaries public and any regularly ordained minister to solemnize a marriage, and destination-wedding photographers, planners and hotel wedding coordinators can almost always point you to a working officiant they have used repeatedly. The Keys legal picture is inverted from what a couple expects and worth stating plainly: Florida's three-day waiting period applies only to Florida residents. An out-of-state couple walks in and walks out with the license the same day, no wait, no course, no residency test. The license is $86 standard, reduced if both are Florida residents and one has completed a Florida premarital preparation course. It is valid sixty days from the effective date and can be issued at any of three Monroe County offices, in Key West, Marathon, or Plantation Key.

Churches and congregations

These are places of worship rather than for-hire officiants. Many will marry members of their own congregation, or couples willing to join and complete a marriage preparation course, and some will not marry non-members at all. Several also price the building, the clergy and the musician separately. Ask early what they require of you — policy varies widely between denominations, and between individual congregations of the same denomination.
