Louisville, Kentucky

Catering

In Louisville: Two states means two sales tax regimes on the food-and-drink line. Kentucky and Indiana treat prepared food and event catering differently, and the exact rate depends on which side of the river the venue sits. Ask the caterer to show tax as its own line rather than folded into a rounded number, and confirm which state's rules apply to the specific venue — a Jeffersonville or New Albany event is Indiana; a Louisville or Shelbyville event is Kentucky. Service charges typically run eighteen to twenty-two percent on top of the food quote and are not the same as gratuity; ask which is which. Winter catering across town or across the river raises a hot-hold question — a plated dinner that leaves a kitchen in Louisville and arrives at a venue in Corydon or Shepherdsville has been in transport bins long enough to matter. Ask what a warming kitchen at the venue looks like before you sign the menu.
