In New Orleans: Two things make a coordinator worth more here than in most markets. The first is the second-line permit and the police escort, which is a real piece of administration with a real deadline, and which a good planner handles without you learning how. The second is the calendar: Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, Essence, the Sugar Bowl and Saints home games each swallow a weekend, close streets, and move hotel rates, and a planner who knows next year's dates will steer you off a date that would have cost you guests. Add the hurricane clause — from June to November, ask what every contract you sign says about postponement, and whether wedding insurance is worth it for your date. It usually is.
