Maryland's blue crab season runs from the first of April to the end of November, and the legal minimum size steps up in the middle of July — so the large crabs a proper feast needs come from roughly mid-July onward. A couple who wants an authentic crab feast is therefore choosing a late-summer or autumn date whether they realize it or not, and that collides directly with the peak of hurricane season in the second week of September. Name the tradeoff early rather than discovering it in August. A December through March wedding here cannot serve local hard crabs at all; anything on the table is imported or frozen, and a good caterer will say so. Budget $80 to $165 a head, and confirm what sits on top of it.
