In Hudson Valley: Eleven venues are listed, two in Hudson and others in Bedford, Pleasantville and Montgomery among them, and the space alone typically runs $6,000 to $40,000 for about 100 guests. That spread is the valley in miniature: converted barns and working farms up in Columbia, Dutchess and Ulster counties at one end, river estates and private grounds in northern Westchester at the other. Peak foliage, late September through mid-October, is the most-requested window here, and those Saturdays go first, so if your heart is set on October, the venue is the first call and everything else follows it. Many estate and farm venues with on-site lodging carry multi-night minimums, which changes the real cost more than the headline fee does, so ask for the full weekend number before you compare. Some of the most photographed sites are public rather than private: state historic sites such as Olana in Hudson, Clermont in Germantown and Staatsburgh in Staatsburg each take bookings through their own site office, and at Staatsburgh the mansion itself cannot be rented, only grounds along the river.

The venue is the single largest decision on this list and usually the largest line in your budget — it sets your date, your capacity, your whole look, and often which other vendors you're even allowed to bring. Venues fall into two broad families. All-inclusive spaces bundle tables, chairs, a coordinator, and sometimes catering and bar in-house; they cost more up front but fold many line items into one. Blank-slate spaces — a barn, a field, a hall, a family home — are a beautiful empty canvas you build on; they look cheaper until you add the rentals, catering, and staffing they require. When you tour, ask what's truly included, the all-in cost with taxes and service fees, the real capacity, the rain-or-heat backup, noise curfews, parking, accessibility, and which vendors you must — or cannot — use.
