For an East End date, this is the category that decides the weekend. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Hamptons and North Fork lodging books 12 to 18 months out for summer Saturdays, and minimum-night stays are common, so a guest who planned on one night may be quoted two or three. Check the minimums before you send save-the-dates and tell guests about them early. September and early October are harvest season on the North Fork, which keeps rooms there tight after summer ends. If your venue is in Nassau or western Suffolk, supply is deeper, but block rooms near the venue rather than across the island, because a late drive on unfamiliar roads is a guest-safety question. For Shelter Island, make sure guests know how the ferry runs. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, so ask every hotel what its cancellation terms are if a storm closes roads.
