In Charleston: Read this line before you sign a venue contract, because in Charleston it is frequently not optional. A number of the grounds venues and several downtown historic houses will not release a date without a licensed planner or coordinator on the contract, and they mean licensed and insured rather than a capable friend. If you are planning from out of town it earns the fee twice over regardless: permits, insurance certificates, which sites allow what, and which caterer is actually approved at which venue are exactly the knowledge that is expensive to acquire from a distance and free to rent. Budget $1,500-9,000 depending on whether you want full service or someone taking the timeline off you in the last month.
