Virginia Beach, Virginia

Flowers & Décor

In Virginia Beach: Coastal-plain growing season runs long — local blooms are meaningful from March into October, and any florist worth their studio will steer you toward what is in season the week of your date rather than what a magazine ran two Aprils ago. Tulips and dogwood peak in April; hydrangea, garden roses and peonies through June; dahlias, zinnias and beach-grass foliage into fall. Heat, humidity and salt spray are the operating constraints — an arrangement built in the studio at eight in the morning is not the arrangement that survives four hours at an oceanfront ceremony in August, and a florist who works this market will refrigerate on site or deliver in a shorter window. Ask specifically whether ceremony arrangements will be repurposed at the reception — arches, altar pieces and aisle markers are easily the most expensive florals on a wedding, and paying for them twice is a common quiet cost.
