Milwaukee & Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Mobile Bar / Servers

In Milwaukee & Lake Geneva: Three services are listed, the thinnest category in this annex — one genuine bartending service with two retail sources beneath it under a labeled block. Expect to look beyond this list. But read this paragraph even if your bar is settled, because the regional rule catches almost everybody. In the county parks alcohol is allowed at a reserved picnic area on your permit and prohibited outright at free, first-come sites. And selling it changes everything: a cash bar, or bundling drinks into any charge, converts your wedding into a sale and requires a special event permit, a municipal liquor license and liquor liability insurance naming the county. An open bar is fine. A cash bar is a different permit and a different budget. Budget $2,500 to $8,000.

Buying the beer, wine and spirits yourself

These are retail sources, not event services — nobody here staffs your bar. Where your venue allows it, buying the alcohol yourself and hiring a licensed bartender to serve it is usually the cheapest way to do this line. The rules vary by state, by county and by venue, so confirm what yours permits — and whether your setup needs its own permit — before you count on the saving.
